Is vaginal discharge normal?
Yes, vaginal discharge is totally normal and we all have it, in fact it is often functional to moisturize our vulvagina. Its color, texture and amount of flow varies during different hormonal stages and within the menstrual cycle.
That is why it is important to learn to look at ourselves, to be attentive to what is happening in our V zone and to know some differences between “normal” and “abnormal” vaginal discharge.
This will help you always stay alert and act on any changes that may be indicating symptoms of possible microorganisms that are causing infection.
Vaginal infections, such as candidiasis (a fungal infection), are often the common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge. Some infections that can cause changes in vaginal discharge, such as gonorrhea, are sexually transmitted. Other infections, such as bacterial vaginitis or fungal infections, can occur regardless of whether you have had sexual intercourse or not.
If you notice any change in your daily vaginal discharge, or have doubts that something is not as it should be, do not hesitate to consult your doctor immediately to rest assured.
